Winter Wonderland

An annual Hough Elementary tradition for over a decade.

What is Winter Wonderland? 

Formerly called, "Father Christmas" this annual student-shopping event has been a Hough Elementary tradition for over a decade. During the month of December the Hough PTSA hosts a holiday shopping bazaar for students to give them an opportunity to purchase gifts for their family members at prices they can afford ($0.50 - $3.00). Students wrap their gifts and bring them home before winter break.

Why is Winter Wonderland so important?

In our school community, nearly 40% of students are experiencing houselessness and over 50% of our students below the poverty line. For many students, this is the only opportunity they have to purchase gifts for their family. 

Gift Collection

The Hough PTSA collects gift donations throughout the year from community members and community partners. We also host fundraising events during the year to assist in funding the purchase of gifts should we not receive enough donations to stock a full shopping bazaar.

We also have to collect donations of wrapping supplies including paper, tape, ribbon, bow, gift bags, tissue paper, and gift tags.

How you can help!

1. Donate new, unwrapped gift items.

2. Donate funds toward this event. 

3. Volunteer to help students shop or wrap gifts.

Gift Donations

There is always an abundance of donations for siblings (toys, dolls, etc.) but donations for grownups are rare. If you can, please consider donating a gift that is suitable for an adult. Here are some ideas.

​

  • DIYers: drill bits, work gloves, tape measure, speed square, etc. 

  • Gardeners: gloves, hand tools, watering can, etc. 

  • Makers: yarn, knitting/crochet needles, watercolor paint, etc. 

  • Grillers: BBQ glove, spatula, grill brush, cedar planks, etc. 

  • Athletes: pickleball paddle, soccer ball, cones, local team gear, etc.

Donations can be dropped off at Hough Elementary School in the lobby. For this year's event please drop off donations no later than Friday, December 12, 2025.
